Kyoto University Symposium

2025/11 Prof. Yueh and Prof. Lin give talks in Social Robots and Ethical Design Symposium

2025/11/5

From November 5 to 7, 2025, the Institute for Advanced Study (IAS) at Kyushu University and the Frontier Research Institute (FRIS) at Tohoku University hosted the Symposium on Social Robots and Ethical Design, gathering 82 participants and scholars from diverse fields such as engineering, design, ethics, law, and social sciences. They explored the challenges of designing and governing AI-equipped social robots, focusing on the concept of “socio-technical systems” to emphasize integrated approaches in development.

As part of a collaborative research program with National Taiwan University and Tohoku University, our team included Prof. Yueh and Lin, Dr. Wang, and doctoral students Ching-Ying and Yuan-Ling particiapted in the symposium with our partners from the Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Dept. of Social Work.

Prof. Yueh's talk, "Inclusion? Exclusion? Feelings of Rejection in Games with Robots," addressed emotional aspects of human-robot interaction. Prof. Lin's presentation, "Designing Ethical Futures: How Game-Based Simulation Prepares Students for Technology's Moral Challenges," highlighted the importance of game-based learning in developing moral intuition for designers and engineers. Together, their insights offered valuable perspectives on the future of technology.

研究室成員及台大機械系、社工系的合作夥伴老師,一同參與日本東北大學與九州大學所舉行的 Symposium on Social Robots and Ethical Design岳老師以「Inclusion? Exclusion? Feelings of Rejection in Games with Robots」為題,分享我們在機器人社會包容的相關研究發現。林老師則以「Designing Ethical Futures: How Game-Based Simulation Prepares Students for Technology's Moral Challenges」為題,分享研究室發展一系列資訊倫理遊戲的經驗與成果。
