2026/03 Bridging Borders: Lab’s Academic Expedition to Wakkanai, Japan

2026/3/25

From March 20 to 25, 2026, our lab team, led by Professor Hsiu-Ping Yueh, embarked on a pivotal academic visit to Wakkanai City, Japan's northernmost point. This expedition marked a significant milestone in our ongoing international research collaboration with the University of Tsukuba.

The visit seamlessly integrated field studies with high-level academic exchange. Our researchers engaged in intensive meetings to advance our joint project, which focuses on the intersection of social robotics and elderly well-being. By observing the local community and infrastructure in Hokkaido, the team gathered unique insights into how digital tools can support information access in remote or extreme environments—a core challenge in modern library and information science.

"This collaboration acts as a bridge, connecting our theoretical frameworks in Taipei with real-world applications in Japan," noted Prof. Yueh when interviewed by the local news.

This trip not only strengthened our partnership with Japanese colleagues but also provided a wealth of data for our upcoming research on human-technology interaction. We look forward to sharing the detailed findings of this collaboration in our next meeting in Taipei.
