Technology & Humanities (科技與人文 106 35130 / LIS3042) is a cross-disciplinary elective course offered by the College of Liberal Arts for undergraduate students.  Started in the 2024AW semester, this six-teacher course is based on the theme of “Technology and Humanities” and covers six topics: digital humanities, digital museums, scientific perspectives on linguistics, large-scale language models and humanity studies, scientific thoughts and humanities, and AI ethics. Through the introduction of these topics, this course intends to inspire the dialogues among informatics, linguistics, and philosophical disciplines.

The module taught by Prof. Weijane Lin in this course is “Digital Museum.” This 3-week module explores the development and transformation of museums’ functions of collection, preservation, exhibition, education, and research in the digital era. Through reviewing the cases and examples of digital museums, learners will be guided to investigate the value of museums in the digital age, the possible connection between museums and visitors, and the curators’ strategies to realize resilient and sustainable museums. Also, the user-centered design process and the evaluation techniques in conducting a digital museum project will be introduced to acquaint students with the general workflow in practice.
